There are over one thousand species of butterflies and moths on the island of Hispaniola, which Haiti shares with the Dominican Republic. If you are in Haiti during the first half of the year through to the middle of the summer, you may spot the Papillons de la Saint-Jean butterfly, which is unfortunately on the ICUN Red List of Threatened Species. Monarch butterflies make an appearance during the last third of the year.
